When did St. Eugene live: in the seventh century
Biography of Saint Eugene:
Eugene was a Roman priest who was known for his acts of charity and his holiness. He was elected pope while his predecessor Martin I was still alive. This happened because Martin was against Monothelitism. Apparently, Eugene should have taken a conciliatory attitude, but he didn't. The Byzantine Emperor threatened with the violent removal of the head of the church but Pope Eugene died shortly after in 657.
