Feast day: April 11
When did St. Stanislaus live: 1030- 1079
Stanislaus was born in 1030 to noble family of Poland. He was educated at Gnesen and was later also ordained priest in the same city. Bishop Lampert Zula of Cracow gave him a canonry and Stanislaus soon became a popular preacher. In 1072, he was consecrated bishop of Cracow. Due to his disagreement with King Boleslaus the Bold who was especially cruel and had kidnapped the wife of a nobleman, Stanislaus excommunicated the King and immediately stopped preaching whenever Boleslaus entered. This is the reason why the King killed Stanislaus during a Mass in a chapel in 1079. He was canonised in 1253 by Pope Innocent IV.
