Biography:
Saint Meinhard of Hersfeld was a benedictine monk in Hersfeld who was elected abbot in 1036. One year after his consacration, his monastery burnt down due to a fire and Meinhard put great efforts in rebuilding it. He was known for his severe attitude and his zeal for science. His episcopacy was overshadowed by a conflict with bishop Burkhard of Halberstadt. Meinhard died in 1059
