Biography of St. Bernadette Soubirous:
St Bernadette was born in France as the daughter of a poor miller. On February 11, 1858, apparently she had visions of the Blessed Virgin in a cave near Lourdes. As her visions continued, many people joined and started venerating the cave. In fact, just a few days later, a spring emerged from the cave and the water had the ability of healing. On March 25, the lady she saw in her visions declared herself as the Immaculate Conception and that a church should be build near the cave. Nowadays, Lourdes is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations. Bernadette died in 1879 and was canonized in 1933.
