When did St. William of Gellone live: 755- 812
Biography of St. William of Gellone:
William was born in 755 as the son of Count Thierry of Toulouse and became a member of the court of Charlemagne. His successfully defeated the Islamic Saracens. Despite his successful career, during which he was described chivalric and as a perfect knight, he chose to dedicate his life to God. William founded a monastery at Gellone and became a monk. For a short period, he also lived as a hermit. William died in 812 and was canonized in 1066.
